Grand Opening – Taylor Park Native Tree Walk and Arboretum

The Taylor Park Native Tree Walk and Arboretum recently reached an exciting milestone with its Level I Accreditation, marking the culmination of extensive community effort and dedication. Developed through hundreds of hours of planting, mulching, and invasive species removal, the arboretum now features 27 labeled tree species and a Native Virginia Tree Walk that can be explored both in person and virtually. As a living landscape, it provides visitors with an opportunity to experience trees up close while learning about their role in Virginia’s ecosystems.

The arboretum is a collaborative partnership between the Virginia Cooperative Extension Hanover County Office and Hanover County Parks and Recreation, created to connect the public with nature through education and stewardship. Designed as a living learning center, it promotes biodiversity, supports sustainable urban forestry, and highlights the importance of native trees and shrubs. This achievement was made possible through the support of county leadership, dedicated staff, and numerous volunteers, as well as partners like Zynnovation LLC. Together, these contributions ensure the arboretum will continue to grow as a space for education, conservation, and community engagement.
