Rita J. Schalk

Unit Coordinator and Extension Agent, 4-H Youth Development

Rita grew up as the daughter of an Air Force officer who retired and became a math and computer science professor at what was then Appalachian State Teachers College. As an undergraduate at NC State, she worked as a botany lab assistant and did background research on the Mexican freetail bat. She was an ecology lab assistant working on Asian water milfoil while a graduate student at the University of Tennessee. He professional experiences are primarily in diverse science education fields from energy education to animal behavior. She joined the Hanover Unit in November 1998.
